Inspiring Women Features | Rebecca Hollis Photography

Check out Becca's website here.

How long have you been pursuing photography professionally?

Like most photogs, my photography adventures started out as a hobby. Pursuing it professionally sort of dropped into my lap a bit. I did a session with a friend, then a friend of a friend, and so on. I eventually decided to go to school for it and let my artistic side abound.

When did you first become interested in photography?

I was never big on being in photos and often volunteered myself to take any pictures. However, I truly become interested back in college. I have always enjoyed painting and drawing real life. It evolved into photos as it took much less time while I was studying.

What is your education in photography?

I attended the Art Institute.

How old is your photography business?

About 5 years old.

What type of photography do you specialize in?

Weddings, portraits, and food mainly. I love to of off on hikes and see what I can find but theses photos tend to be for my own pleasure.

What is your middle name?

Ann. My mom's name.

Where were you born?

Eagle River, Wisconsin

What is your favorite part of living in the northwest?

The mountains and milder winters. Back in Wisconsin, we would have much colder winters with a lot more snow and they would last longer. I still love winter as a season but I love that it doesn't last as long here.

What is your family like?

We are all a little crazy, which makes it incredibly fun. I get my quirkiness from my grandma. She has always made things fun and it's always and adventure when you are with her. We are very close and I miss them terribly.

One or Two quirky facts about yourself.

I am an animal lover and a vegetarian. I went to school for dietetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before photography and am a die-hard Badger fan. I love my cheese.

Other ventures? Blogs? Projects? Businesses?

I have a food blog called Fig and Pickles. I always enjoy cooking and noticed there was a gap in the food blogging world for a blog that talked about being a vegetarian with an omnivorous other that you have to cook for as well. I cook vegetarian, take delicious food pictures, but then also give tips on how I incorporate meat for my hunting husband. It is my creative photography outlet that is all mine. I absolutely  love weddings and people, but it's nice to have something that is all mine to enjoy.

I've never had an intern before Taylor. She was definitely more than an intern and one of the smartest things I have done for my business this year! She acted as my assistant at every wedding, was extremely organized and detail oriented. Taylor was a very valuable addition to my team and I'm sad to see her gone for the winter as I could desperately use her help all year around. She'll be joining my wedding team again next year when she comes back to the Northwest!

How long have you been working in the wedding industry?
Officially, for 7 months.

When did you first become interested in the wedding and event industry?
Almost 2 years ago. But I have always loved weddings, special events and parties. So I was surprised I didn't think about it sooner!

What is your education/certifications?
I am a certified wedding and event planner from Sheffield School in NYC

What are your favorite events?
Unique formal occasions that really have a personal touch. But I do love throwing together smaller dinner parties.

Do you have your own business or where do you work?
This year, I had the pleasure of being an intern for Alisa Lewis Event Design, and the Attic.

What is your middle name?
Elizabeth

Where were you born?
Vail, CO.

What is your favorite part of living in the Northwest?
I love having four seasons. I love the lakes and having a white Christmas. I have been able to travel quite a bit, but Coeur d'Alene is honestly one of my favorite places to be in the whole world! :)

What is your family like?
Ridiculous. We love to have fun, and we're always remodeling our house. I have four nieces and nephews who I adore!

One or Two quirky facts about yourself?
I have never colored my hair.
I am a chocoholic and love Audrey Hepburn movies.

Other ventures? Blogs? Projects? Businesses?
I'm moving to Vail, CO. for the winter season with my best friend.
I ramble on my blog simplythethought.blogspot.com/ (about weddings, football, movies, my weird life) and continue my love for random photography on my other two blog pages

Inspiring Women Features | Katie Kimball

A local to Coeur d'Alene, Katie is one of those people who just knows everyone in town! And now she is one of Coeur d'Alene's most fun hairdressers! Her funny and sweet personality draw in her clients and Katie always loves to try new "do's!" So we wanted to get to know her a little better!

How long have you been styling & cutting hair professionally?

I have been a stylist professionally for over a year and a half now.

When did you first become interested in hair styling?

I have always loved doing my hair and my friend’s hair. However I never considered it as a career.

I was going to be a school teacher. Until after a few major events in my life I was being the "girl who cried beauty school!"

I was never intending on going to beauty school, however God and my family had different plans and about three months after I started using it as my excuse I was enrolled and starting. The 2nd day in I fell in love and I can't imagine doing anything else.

What is your education?

I graduated from Toni & Guy Hair Academy, in Coeur d'Alene, top of my class. I have attended numerous classes and job shadowed with many stylist in the area.

What type of hair do you specialize in?

I mainly do cuts and colors. I am working towards a goal of specializing in "avant-garde" or theatrical hair.

Do you have your own business or do you work in a salon?

I have owned my business and I worked with the lovely ladies at Maxx & Co. Salon for the past year and half.

Will you travel on site for bridal & wedding party hair?

I do travel for bridal and wedding party hair.

Do you offer a package for the bride + all of the bridal party and moms?

It really depends on the wedding. I have limited help so it depends on the wedding as to what I offer. I normally have set prices as to the bride being more and then the bridesmaids less. However depending on the circumstance it varies.

What is your family like?

My family is very loud and loving. I am very close to my brothers. I live with my grandparents and I absolutely love every minute I spend with my family.

One or Two quirky facts about yourself?

I’m Irish…Very Irish, however I tan like I’m Italian…And I love reading and knowing useless facts that no one       ever has a need for!

Other ventures? Blogs? Projects? Businesses?

I love traveling and I am moving in the fall with my best friend for the winter to just get away and do something new.

I own a small business making customized lamps out of bottles.
